Andersen's inspiration for Kayoni stemmed from the desire to create a toy that not only entertains but also stimulates cognitive development and social skills. This vision led to the creation of a modular system that offers a variety of construction and assembly possibilities, pushing the boundaries of traditional construction sets. Kayoni is designed to cater to a broad age range, from preschoolers to adults, making it a versatile tool for learning and fun.
The uniqueness of Kayoni lies in its high-precision design and manufacturing process. The blocks, made through high-accuracy injection molding, are based on a 5 x 5 x 5 mm cube modulo. This design allows for multiple orientation assembly of blocks, offering limitless construction opportunities. The use of high-grade ABS in palette colors ensures the blocks are safe and compliant with children's toy regulations.
Despite its complex design, Kayoni is user-friendly. The blocks come in various sizes and colors, allowing for a multitude of assembly possibilities. The sets, which range from 100 to 3200 blocks, come with illustrated assemblies to guide users. This interactive design encourages learning, skill-building, and social interaction, making Kayoni a valuable educational tool.
The Kayoni project began in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2016 and was first exhibited in 2019. The ABS-series, ready for launch, is set to hit the market in mid-2020. The development of Kayoni involved extensive research and testing, including focus groups, user acceptance testing, and consultations with engineers, graphic designers, and educators. This rigorous process ensured the creation of a product that is not only innovative but also beneficial for cognitive and social development.
Despite the challenges, such as creating a unique 3D construction set and navigating trademark and patent registrations, Andersen's vision came to fruition with Kayoni. This innovative construction set is not only a testament to Andersen's creativity and technical expertise but also a valuable tool for learning and development. Kayoni's recognition with the Silver A' Toys, Games, and Hobby Products Design Award in 2020 is a testament to its innovative design and potential impact on learning and creativity.
